Limitations:

The AKKO College Base Plan ($9/month) includes $2,000 of coverage PER INCIDENT*. There are no annual coverage limits or a limit on the number of claims you may file.Ā

*$2,000 of coverage PER INCIDENT means that if next week on Monday your phone is stolen, up to $2,000 is covered for you to replace your phone.Ā

If the next day on Tuesday you drop your laptop and the screen is smashed, up to $2,000 is covered for you to repair it.

Even if that same day, Tuesday afternoon, you also drop your sunglasses and the lenses crack, up to another $2,000 is covered for you to repair or replace them.

This demonstrates PER INCIDENT coverage. And there’s no limit on how much can be paid out for mishaps of Accidental Damage or Theft each year, or even each month, week or day.

HOWEVER, if during a single incidentĀ someone steals your entire backpack, filled with your phone, laptop, and sunglasses, up to $2,000 total is covered to replace all those items and any other contents of your backpack, plus the backpack itself.

Higher PER INCIDENT coverage limits are available!Ā

Once you’re registered, you can upgrade your coverage to a PER INCIDENT coverage limit as high as $10,000! But for a more common $3,000 – $5,000 PER INCIDENT coverage limit upgrade, it’s only a couple more dollars per month šŸ™‚

The $2,000 of PER INCIDENT coverage is more than enough for the majority of college students based on our studies and the claims rates of currently covered students nationwide. But for students with more expensive items like a high-end laptop, or specialty gear like photography or music/audio equipment, the option to upgrade your limit is easily available. Plus you can change your coverage limit whenever you like, upgrading or downgrading, and pay a pro-rated adjusted amount.

Feel free to Contact Us with any questions!

Other Limitations:
1. Coverage for jewelry, watches, rings, and other items consisting of gold, silver, or platinum or furs is limited $1,000.00 for any one Loss.

2. Coverage for bicycles is limited to $1,000.00.

3. Property in a personally owned automobile is covered, provided that the vehicle was locked and windows are fully closed at the time of theft and there was visible evidence of forced entry into the vehicle.

Ā

Yup! The amount you pay when something of yours is damaged or stolen is called your “deductible.”

It’s the amount we deduct from your payout for a claim.Ā Ā

The reason insurance plans contain a deductible is so that you are still motivated to be careful with your stuff.

But we make sure to set a deductible that’s at least easily affordableĀ rather than the $50 – $400 deductibles on most other protection plans for phones, laptops, and other items.

All of our AKKO Base Plans (college, travel, member, or other) include $2,000 of coverage PER INCIDENT**. There are no annual coverage limits or a limit on the number of claims you may file.Ā

Automobile, motorcycle, boat, motor, aircraft or aircraft parts or any type of motorized land vehicle or other conveyances or their accessories (including car stereos, GPS navigation devices, keyless entry), money in currency or coin, evidences of debt, letters of credit, passport documents, notes, securities, transportation tickets or any other tickets, pharmaceuticals, prescription or over- the- counter, artwork, professional or amateur, antiques or collectables, animals, firearms or ammunition, salesman samples, contact lenses, keys, artificial teeth or limbs, or merchandise for sale, forms of identification, including student IDā€™s and driverā€™s licenses.

Your coverage begins 12:01AM the day of your trip departure. Prior to your trip you must register your code and make sure your account has been activated.

All items with you on your trip are covered. To make filing a potential claim for a loss more efficient, add the items you’re taking with you to your account with their pictures.

NO. This coverage does not apply to any damage or theft or loss that affects yours or a rental car or motor vehicle (such as a street scooter or motorcycle) or any items incorporated or mounted/installed on to the exterior/interior of a vehicle. You’d have to go through any applicable Auto-Insurance for recovering losses.

However, your coverage DOES apply to items inside yours or another car that are Damaged or Stolen so long as you provide proof of forced entry into the vehicle indicating that the doors/windows/trunk/cargo bags were closed and locked on the vehicle.

So if for example your rental car was broken into and items were stolen, they’d be covered. If the tour bus you’re on has items stolen from it, you’re covered.Ā

Just as with any other claims for Theft, you must also provide a copy of your filed police report.

Renter’s insurance (from Lemonade, Jetty, or other established insurance providers) typically covers losses to your property from damage or theft ONLY when youā€™re at home and DOES NOTĀ cover Accidental Damage like a dropped phone or spilling coffee on your laptop.

Accidental Damage like Cracked Screens, Spills, and Drops are more than 12x as likely to happen than the losses that occur which Renter’s Policies will even cover…

Additionally, the deductibles on a Renter’s Policy for losses from damage like fires, floods, or a break-in are usually $250-$1,000…

Thatā€™s WAY higher than our $25 deductible for ANY claim filed. Whether it’s Accidental Damage, or Theft, Vandalism, or even a Fire/Flood, or natural disaster.

Plus, the cost of your renter’s or homeowners insurance coverage may also increase when you do file a claimā€¦

Most travel insurance policies provide POOR COVERAGE for losses to your personal property (like your phone, laptop, tablet, camera, or sunglasses).Ā  If any of your personal property items are accidentally damaged or stolen, you’ll usually only have a couple hundred dollars worth of coverage. So if your camera or phone got stolen, you’d be on the line for $500+ in expenses! For the cheap price of $12 though, you can have ALL your items with you on your trip covered.Ā

AKKO plans provide PROPERTY COVERAGE ONLY, so compared to a travel insurance policy, our plans will not protect against things like trip cancellation, illness, injury, death, or other non-property related damages or losses.

Claims & Other

Claims info & other frequent questions.

YES!

This makes our AKKO Travel Plan a must-have for your trip.Ā

If you want to check-out a surfboard, bicycle, or other item where you’re staying, you don’t have to worry about being on the hook if the item(s) get damaged or stolen while you’re responsible for them. Just file a claim and be reimbursed the amount you’re liable for to the company/place you’re borrowing or renting from.

This includes coverage for items like: Kayaks, Small non-motorized boats/water craft, Bikes, Scooters (non motorized), Skiis, Snowboards, Tennis Rackets, Golf Clubs, and any other items which are not listed in the “what items are NOT covered” section.

All coverage plans are backed by Allmerica Financial Benefit Insurance Company, a member of The Hanover Insurance Group (est. 1852). This American insurance company has a long history of protecting the property of individuals from unforeseen damages and theft and has maintained an ā€œAā€ (Excellent) rating from A.M Best Company for years. The Hanover Insurance Group is a $5 Billion U.S. publicly traded company and currently backs the coverage of over 500,000 people nationwide!

AKKO serves as a facilitator of this insurance coverage with added enhancements for our users that are unique to our platform as well as a simpler and faster process for being able to get your stuff covered and process claims faster and better.

Simply log-in to your account and go to the ā€œClaimsā€ section. File a new claim and select the items that have been affected by damage or were stolen. Youā€™ll have to provide an account of what happened along with proof of ownership if the item costs over $100.

Proof of ownership is provided by a purchase receipt or evidence of a purchase transaction. You may be able to contact a retailer or the seller of an item you bought an item from for a copy of a receipt or proof of purchase if you do not have one. In addition, youā€™ll have to provide pictures of the damages to your items, if applicable.

For all incidents of Theft and Vandalism, a police report is required to process your claim and receive repairs/replacement of your items. Online reports are accepted for any theft or vandalism valued LESS than $1,000. If the cost to repair/replace your items from theft or vandalism exceeds $1,000 then you need a copy of the physical report.

If you’re outside the U.S. you’ll still need to provide a copy of a police report filed at the destination of the theft and provide it with your claim.

Once your claim is approved, AKKO College Coverage members have the premium benefit of receiving $ electronically INSTANTLY!

Normally you’d have to wait up to two weeks depending on the items affected and the incident if you were going through an average insurer or protection plan.

The amount of time resolving your claim will vary based on what type of claim youā€™re making and what types of items were affected. (For example, an incident of theft in your dorm or apartment will take longer than solving your reimbursement for a cracked phone screen.)

Repairs:
If you have an Apple device, repairs can be done at your local Apple Store. For most other claims involving non-Apple products, you’ll need to take your items to a local repair shop that can provide the services needed.Ā

For items items taken to a store near you, once an estimate is received, the staff handling your claim would then approve a cash payout to you for the cost of the repairs or to purchase a replacement item if the damage is too extensive.

Any independent repair services must be approved by a claims representative for you to be reimbursed by your coverage plan. After filing a claim, you will receive an email regarding your claim and instructions for proceeding to have your items repaired or replaced.Ā
