Limitations:

The AKKO Base Plan ($15/month, $12 with Surfline Premium) includes $2,000 of coverage PER INCIDENT*. There are no annual coverage limits or a limit on the number of claims you may file.

*$2,000 of coverage PER INCIDENT means that if next week on Monday your phone is stolen, up to $2,000 is covered for you to replace your phone.

If the next day on Tuesday you drop your laptop and the screen is smashed, up to $2,000 is covered for you to repair it.

Even if that same day, Tuesday afternoon, you also drop your sunglasses and the lenses crack, up to another $2,000 is covered for you to repair or replace them.

This demonstrates PER INCIDENT coverage. And there’s no limit on how much can be paid out for mishaps of Accidental Damage or Theft each year, or even each month, week or day.

HOWEVER, if during a single incident someone steals your entire backpack, filled with your phone, laptop, and sunglasses, up to $2,000 total is covered to replace all those items and any other contents of your backpack, plus the backpack itself.

Higher PER INCIDENT coverage limits are available!

Once you’re registered, you can upgrade your coverage to a PER INCIDENT coverage limit as high as $10,000! But for a more common $3,000 – $5,000 PER INCIDENT coverage limit upgrade, it’s only a couple more dollars per month 🙂

The $2,000 of PER INCIDENT coverage is more than enough for the majority of users based on our studies and the claims rates of currently covered people nationwide. But for those with more expensive items like a high-end laptop, or specialty gear like photography or music/audio equipment, the option to upgrade your limit is easily available. Plus you can change your coverage limit whenever you like, upgrading or downgrading, and pay a pro-rated adjusted amount.

Other Limitations:
1. Coverage for jewelry, watches, rings, and other items consisting of gold, silver, or platinum or furs is limited $1,000.00 for any one Loss.

2. Coverage for bicycles is limited to $1,000.00.

3. Property in a personally owned automobile is covered, provided that the vehicle was locked and windows are fully closed at the time of theft and there was visible evidence of forced entry into the vehicle.

Nope! You can add any items you currently own no matter when they were purchased.

Simply take pictures of the items and enter them into your account. Do note that if you ever need to file a claim, you may need to provide the purchase receipts of the items.

If you are unable to find copies in your email or elsewhere, you can reach back out to the shop or retailer who originally sold you the item and request a receipt.

If you purchased an item used from another individual, such as via craigslist or another online marketplace/classfields, ask them to email you a statement that includes the name of the item that was purchased, the date of the transaction (can be approximated), and the amount paid. This can serve as a purchase receipt.

If you have any questions about how to go about covering your used items, please feel free to reach out to us: contact@getAKKO.com

If you buckle your board due to an accidental incident, it’s covered! Just take it to a nearby repair shop, have them provide a note on their store letterhead or sent from their store/company email, then provide that with your filed claim.

If any type of accidental damage causes the functionality of your board to be greatly affected, then replacing the entire board will be covered.

First, you’ll need to receive a signed statement from a repair shop near you that states repairing the board would be insufficient to make it fully functional and that they recommend discarding the board and fully replacing it.

Submit the statement with your claim, and you will receive a payment in the amount of either the cost you initially paid for the board or the cost to replace it with a new board found online or provided at a store near you, whichever amount is less.

Small dings or scratches which do not effect the ride would be classified as “cosmetic damage” and not covered.

If your board is substantially damaged and no longer functions the same or is stolen, you will be paid the lesser of the following values:

  • The cost you paid for the board
  • The cost to replace the board as calculated by finding the same make/model new online or at a store near you

The amount you paid for your board is called your “insurable interest” as a rule of insurance, you can’t be compensated more than what your “insurable interest” is in an item.

So if you bought your board used, and only paid half price, you can only be compensated that amount you paid for the board to buy a new one, or another used one. You won’t be compensated the cost of the board new.

What you get paid when you file a claim will never be effected due to the value of your board depreciating from your own use.

If your custom board is substantially damaged and no longer functions the same or is stolen, you will be paid the amount you initially paid for the board in order to purchase a new one.

For a custom board, you will need to have an original receipt for its purchase. If you currently do not have a receipt, simply reach out to the shop or shaper and request one. It can even be an email which says the date and amount you paid along with a description of the board.

If you run over your board on purpose… it’s not covered. But if you forget to load up your board and you accidentally run it over, it’s covered! Just file a claim and get reimbursed to buy a new one.

If your board falls off your car either while parked or driving, that counts as a drop and is accidental damage. It will be covered.

But please note, that any damage your board may cause to other items, people, or vehicles, is outside of the realm of a personal property protection plan like AKKO. You would need to consult your auto or personal liability insurance providers. AKKO would only cover the damage to your own board.

If you know exactly where you left something and you come back to find it missing and then aren’t able to recover it, you know it was stolen. Just submit a claim with a filed police report and you can be reimbursed to buy a new one. Note however that “mysterious disappearance” is NOT covered by your plan. So if you’re not sure where you left something, but you’re unable to find it… then your claim would be denied.

Yup! The amount you pay when something of yours is damaged or stolen is called your “deductible.”

It’s the amount we deduct from your payout for a claim.

The reason insurance plans contain a deductible is so that you are still motivated to be careful with your stuff.

But we make sure to set a deductible that’s at least easily affordable rather than the  high deductibles on most other protection plans and insurance policies.

If you’re a student, your deductible is only $25 for any claim (damage or theft). Just be sure to register as a student!

Automobile, motorcycle, boat, motor, aircraft or aircraft parts or any type of motorized land vehicle or other conveyances or their accessories (including car stereos, GPS navigation devices, keyless entry), money in currency or coin, evidences of debt, letters of credit, passport documents, notes, securities, transportation tickets or any other tickets, pharmaceuticals, prescription or over- the- counter, artwork, professional or amateur, antiques or collectables, animals, firearms or ammunition, salesman samples, contact lenses, keys, artificial teeth or limbs, or merchandise for sale, forms of identification, including student ID’s and driver’s licenses.

NO. This coverage does not apply to any damage or theft or loss that affects yours or a rental car or motor vehicle (such as a street scooter or motorcycle) or any items incorporated or mounted/installed on to the exterior/interior of a vehicle. You’d have to go through any applicable Auto-Insurance for recovering losses.

However, your coverage DOES apply to items inside yours or another car that are Damaged or Stolen so long as you provide proof of forced entry into the vehicle indicating that the doors/windows/trunk/cargo bags were closed and locked on the vehicle.

So if for example your rental car was broken into and items were stolen, they’d be covered. If the tour bus you’re on has items stolen from it, you’re covered.

Just as with any other claims for Theft, you must also provide a copy of your filed police report.

YES!

This makes our AKKO Travel Plan a must-have for your trip.

If you want to check-out a surfboard, bicycle, or other item where you’re staying, you don’t have to worry about being on the hook if the item(s) get damaged or stolen while you’re responsible for them. Just file a claim and be reimbursed the amount you’re liable for to the company/place you’re borrowing or renting from.

This includes coverage for items like: Kayaks, Small non-motorized boats/water craft, Bikes, Scooters (non motorized), Skiis, Snowboards, Tennis Rackets, Golf Clubs, and any other items which are not listed in the “what items are NOT covered” section.

All coverage plans are backed by Allmerica Financial Benefit Insurance Company, a member of The Hanover Insurance Group (est. 1852). This American insurance company has a long history of protecting the property of individuals from unforeseen damages and theft and has maintained an “A” (Excellent) rating from A.M Best Company for years. The Hanover Insurance Group is a $5 Billion U.S. publicly traded company and currently backs the coverage of over 500,000 people nationwide!

AKKO serves as a facilitator of this insurance coverage with added enhancements for our users that are unique to our platform as well as a simpler and faster process for being able to get your stuff covered and process claims faster and better.

Simply log-in to your account and go to the “Claims” section. File a new claim and select the items that have been affected by damage or were stolen. You’ll have to provide an account of what happened along with proof of ownership if the item costs over $100.

Proof of ownership is provided by a purchase receipt or evidence of a purchase transaction. You may be able to contact a retailer or the seller of an item you bought an item from for a copy of a receipt or proof of purchase if you do not have one. In addition, you’ll have to provide pictures of the damages to your items, if applicable.

For all incidents of Theft and Vandalism, a police report is required to process your claim and receive repairs/replacement of your items. Online reports are accepted for any theft or vandalism valued LESS than $1,000. If the cost to repair/replace your items from theft or vandalism exceeds $1,000 then you need a copy of the physical report.

If you’re outside the U.S. you’ll still need to provide a copy of a police report filed at the destination of the theft and provide it with your claim.

Once your claim is approved, AKKO College Coverage members have the premium benefit of receiving $ electronically INSTANTLY!

Normally you’d have to wait up to two weeks depending on the items affected and the incident if you were going through an average insurer or protection plan.

The amount of time resolving your claim will vary based on what type of claim you’re making and what types of items were affected. (For example, an incident of theft in your dorm or apartment will take longer than solving your reimbursement for a cracked phone screen.)

Repairs:
If you have an Apple device, repairs can be done at your local Apple Store. For most other claims involving non-Apple products, you’ll need to take your items to a local repair shop that can provide the services needed.

For items items taken to a store near you, once an estimate is received, the staff handling your claim would then approve a cash payout to you for the cost of the repairs or to purchase a replacement item if the damage is too extensive.

Any independent repair services must be approved by a claims representative for you to be reimbursed by your coverage plan. After filing a claim, you will receive an email regarding your claim and instructions for proceeding to have your items repaired or replaced.
