Step 2:
They activate their account in less than 5 minutes. Then they add their items, upload pictures of them, and they’re covered!

How do I start selling AKKO Plans?

How do I start selling
AKKO Plans?

If you’re ready to begin offering AKKO Plans to your customers, fill out this form to get approved!

Step 1

We will provide your store with a counter-top marketing display to place by your register which outlines all the coverage info and cost. Then you’ll receive a sheet of activation codes.

If you have an online store you’d also like to sell AKKO plans through, we’ll provide FREE assistance in getting it configured to sell our plan!

Step 2

When a customer purchases coverage, the employee at your register provides one of the activation codes from your store’s sheet to the customer by simply writing it on the customer’s receipt.

If the customer purchases through your website, an activation code is emailed to them.

Step 3

The customer goes to our website, getAKKO.com, and inputs their activation code to register their coverage. That’s it!

At the end of every month, AKKO sends you an invoice to collect the money for your sales and you retain your cut.

The Retail Details

What you need to know about selling AKKO Plans.

Your store makes 10-15% on every sale of an AKKO Plan.*

Our AKKO Adult plan is sold for $15 per month or $168 for a 1yr plan.

Our AKKO College Plan is sold for $12 per month or $120 for a 1yr plan.

*The range for your compensation varies on the volume of your sales and hitting certain bonus incentives which we offer. The compensation is a marketing & administration fee and NOT any form of commission.

Nope! There is no sales tax on an AKKO Plan since it is a service.

The only taxes you will pay is on your income generated from each sale.

Nope! As a retail partner, you are only helping to market and administer customers’ registrations for coverage. Upon purchasing an activation code for a coverage plan in your store, customers come to our website to actually register their account and activate their coverage plan.

The marketing material we will provide for you to place at your store’s checkout also contains AKKO’s branding very cleary along with the required disclaimers and notices that a customer needs to see to know who the insurance underwriter and brokerage administrator are.

Yes! What’s unique and amazing about our AKKO plan is that it is not attached to any individual item. This means that a customer can purchase just an AKKO plan at your store or on your website and then are able to activate their plan and add items they already own or have previously purchased from you to be covered on their plan.

If your site is built on WordPress and uses WooCommerce or if you have a Shopify store, we can set up an extension to let you sell our plan through your store. With every purchase, an activation code will automatically be emailed to the customer.

If your site does not use WordPress or Shopify, or you’re not sure how your website is configured, schedule a call with us and we’ll check out your site and figure out the best set-up for you. We don’t charge anything to get your site ready to sell!

YES! If you’re a shop which offers repair services, AKKO customers can (and almost always do) return to your shop to get their repairs done.

So whether it’s damages to electronics, cameras, music instruments, skiis, snowboards, surfboards, or bikes, you can provide your invoice for repair work to the customer and then they submit that with their claim and receive payment to get the repairs done.

Having your customers carry our coverage can lead to a BIG bump in your revenues from repair work. If customers don’t have insurance coverage and must pay out of their own pocket for repairs for their items, they may often wait off on getting items fixed, shop around for a cheaper place to get repairs done, or decide not to get their items fixed at all.

The same goes for when a customer needs an item replaced due to extensive damage or theft. If they have an AKKO Plan, they’ll have the insurance payout to be able to easily return to your store and replace their items!

The deductibles for phones on our phone-only protection plans or our “Everything Protected” AKKO Plan ranges from $29 – $99 per claim based on the phone’s model. $99 is also the max deductible even for Theft or total replacement claims! (less than half the cost of most other protection providers.) Click here to view the deductibles for repairs/replacements on your specific phone make/model.

If you have one of our “Everything Protected” AKKO Plans which protects 1 phone + 25 other items, all other items besides your phone are subject to a $99 deductible ($49 for students) for any incident of Accidental Damage or Theft.

This amount that is “deducted” from any reimbursement payout you receive exists so that individuals are still motivated to be careful with their stuff.

But with all of AKKO’s protection plans, we made sure to have the deductibles at least be set at easily affordable amounts rather than the $150 – $400 deductibles seen on many other protections plans for phones, laptops, and other electronics and personal items.

If you have a phone-only protection plan, the limit of protection is capped at the replacement cost value of your phone at the time of your claim. This means that no matter what, you will always be covered to get an exact replacement of your phone (down to the same make, model, color, technical specs, and carrier). There is no limit on the number of claims you may file.

For our “Everything Protected” AKKO Plans ($15/month for adults, $12 for students) there is a protection limit of $2,000 PER INCIDENT** for all items besides your phone. There are no annual protection limits or a limit on the number of claims you may file. Additionally, all protection is still based on replacement cost value of your damaged/stolen items determined at the time of the claim.

**$2,000 of protection PER INCIDENT means that if next week on Monday your laptop is stolen, up to the replacement value of your laptop is covered as long as that amount is less than $2,000.

If at another point in the same year you drop your tablet and the screen is smashed, up to the repair or replacement value cost of the tablet is covered as well as long as it’s less than $2,000.

But, there is not an annual limit of $2,000 which would be exhausted in case replacing your laptop cost $1,800 and replacing your tablet had cost $500.

This demonstrates PER INCIDENT protection and the per incident limit with an AKKO Plan is $2,000. There is not an annual limit.

HOWEVER, if during a single incident someone steals your entire backpack, filled with your laptop, and tablet, up to $2,000 total is covered to replace those items and any other contents of your backpack, plus the backpack itself. So if the combined replacement cost was above $2,000 for all these items, you would only have coverage up to $2,000 to be reimbursed.

Higher PER INCIDENT protection limits are available!

Once you’re registered, you can upgrade your plan to a PER INCIDENT limit as high as $10,000. But for a more common $3,000 – $5,000 PER INCIDENT protection limit upgrade, it’s only a few more dollars per month 🙂

The $2,000 of PER INCIDENT protection is more than enough for the majority of users based on our studies and the claims rates of currently protected AKKO users nationwide. But for those with more expensive items like a high-end laptop, or specialty gear like photography or music/audio equipment, the option to upgrade your limit is easily available. Simply contact us via the “billing” section of your account and we can upgrade your limit.

Other Limitations:

1. Coverage for jewelry, watches, rings, and other items consisting of gold, silver, or platinum or furs is limited $1,000.00 for any one Loss.

2. Coverage for bicycles is limited to $1,000.00.

3. Property in a personally owned automobile is covered, provided that the vehicle was locked and windows are fully closed at the time of theft and there was visible evidence of forced entry into the vehicle.

We re-state all this information under this separate Frequently Asked Question because sometimes users don’t click through all questions/answers and we want to make sure all prospective customers are fully informed 🙂

For any accidental damage claims, it is not a requirement to have the original purchase receipts for the items you want to protect on your plan. While preferred, you can establish “proof of ownership” of your items through other means.

For items you may have purchased used or through a 3rd party marketplace platform such as Craigslist, eBay, Facebook Marketplace, or OfferUp, request an email be sent to you by a seller stating the date you purchased an item, the amount paid, and what the item was. If an item was gifted to you, you may be requested to receive a statement from them confirming this.

For theft claims, proof of purchase will need to be provided. If you don’t have the original receipt of your purchase, you can try to contact the original seller/retailer you purchased an item from as often they will have records of past transactions. You can try providing your name, phone number, email, or credit card number to try and track down a receipt for something you purchased.

You can also provide our team a record of your credit card or bank statement showing the date and amount paid for an item. Or if you purchase an item through a marketplace or from a private seller, you could provide a record of something like a PayPal or Venmo transaction.

Automobile, motorcycle, boat, motor, aircraft or aircraft parts or any type of motorized land vehicle or other conveyances or their accessories (including car stereos, GPS navigation devices, keyless entry), money in currency or coin, evidences of debt, letters of credit, passport documents, notes, securities, transportation tickets or any other tickets, pharmaceuticals, prescription or over- the- counter, artwork, professional or amateur, antiques or collectables, animals, firearms or ammunition, salesman samples, contact lenses, keys, artificial teeth or limbs, or merchandise for sale, forms of identification, including student ID’s and driver’s licenses.

  1. Reimbursement for jewelry, watches, rings, and other items consisting of gold, silver, or platinum or furs is limited to $1,000.00 for any one incident of loss.
  2. Reimbursement for bicycles is limited to $1,000.
  3. Property in a personally owned automobile is protected, provided that the vehicle was locked and windows are fully closed at the time of theft and there was visible evidence of forced entry into the vehicle.
  4. Surfboards are protected for theft and damage due to mishandling on airlines, accidental damage from non-airline transportation or use/handling not included.
  5. Appliances: only counter-top appliances such as blenders, coffee makers, toasters, or microwaves are protected. Appliances which are wall mounted or integrated into cabinetry or have any types of utility hookups such as gas or water are not covered.

If you were to “Lose” one of your belongings, you would need to evaluate the situation to determine if it fell under being theft, or what’s called “mysterious disappearance” (aka, you simply misplaced your belonging and have no idea where it went).

Use tools like Find My iPhone/Android to try and recover your phone, or similar services to track down a laptop/tablet. Take screenshots or record evidence of your attempts to recover your phone to provide the most complete set of evidence you can with your claims.

To receive reimbursement for a stolen phone, you must be able to share the location timeline of the device.

If you have an android device:

Make sure “Find my Android” is working and enabled. Just go to your web browser and type “Find my Android” and click the first result, make sure you can see the device on a map displaying “last known location” and the device name and make/model.

If you have an iPhone:

The “Find My” app on iOS does not provide a history of your device’s location which can help provide proof of theft for your claim. Download the Google Maps app and be sure it is set to allow location access at all times. You can verify that your Google Maps timeline is available by checking here: https://www.google.com/maps/timeline

You will only need to show AKKO’s team your location history if your phone is ever stolen.

The protection you get with an AKKO Plan will cover theft, but will not cover “mysterious disappearance.”

Your protection begins at 12:01 a.m. Standard Time at the location of your property the day after your account is created and payment is current and activation is completed.

There is a waiting period of up to 30 days for accidental damages or theft to be eligible for reimbursement from your plan. In situations where ample photo/video evidence is available when reviewing your reported loss and claim, this waiting period may be waived for losses from accidental damages.

Be sure to follow all instructions within your account for adding photos and information for your items.

Photos of phones and tablets should be uploaded using the phone’s own cameras (front and rear) to provide pictures of the front (screen) and back sides of the device by taking the photos in front of a mirror. A photo of the phone’s “About” page in settings should also be provided by using another device (do not provide a screenshot) and the serial # of the device should be visible.

Photos of laptops and computers should be taken by including a photo of the device with the screen powered on and also displaying the “about” page showing the specs and serial # of the computer.

Photos of TVs should also be taken where the screen is powered on and displaying video/image. Also include photo of the serial #. For gaming consoles, be sure to include photos that show the device powered on with image/video visible on a display. Do not just include photos of the gaming console itself if it has no screen.

Yes!

The age or place you purchased your items does not matter. As long as an item is eligible for protection, regardless of its age or if you purchased it used from a store or individual, you can add it to your plan and have it protected through AKKO. See what items are eligible for protection here.

For items you purchased used or through a 3rd party marketplace platform such as Craigslist, eBay, Facebook Marketplace, or OfferUp, request an email be sent to you by a seller stating the date you purchased an item, the amount paid, and what the item was.

This can suffice as a receipt should you be asked to provide one during a claim. However, for any claim of theft, you must also be able to provide proof of purchase (such as a record of a PayPal or Venmo payment, or a copy of your credit card or bank statement showing the date and amount paid). Read more here about how purchase receipts are not required for coverage.
