Best Insurance After Your Playstation 5 Warranty Ends

Share:

The Sony Playstation is an extremely popular gaming console, exciting audiences from the most serious gamers to the most casual players. Since its original release in 1994, the Playstation has remained a mainstay in the video game industry and has updated its consoles, accessories, and games over the years with many new generations of Playstation products.

Like any electronic product of the caliber of the Playstation, most gamers consider this console and its accessories to be an investment worth protecting. After all, there are a few known malfunctions that Playstation products tend to experience that can affect the quality of gameplay and the ability of the console and accessories to function at all.

In order to protect your purchase from inconvenient malfunctions that are due to defective materials or workmanship, Sony includes a manufacturer’s warranty with every purchase of a new Playstation console, accessory, or game.

A warranty is a written promise from a manufacturer that they will repair or replace a product in the event of a malfunction or defect that affects the owner’s ability to use the item to its full potential.

Generally, if a manufacturer’s error is present in a new electronic product, the effects of this error will become known within a few months of use. This is why most warranties of this kind last for around one year after the original date of purchase.

Some companies will allow buyers to opt for extended warranties that provide the same or additional protections for up to 2 or 3 years. However, standard warranties that are included with item purchases don’t typically last for more than a single year.

Does the Playstation 5 Come with a Warranty?

The Playstation 5 console itself comes with a manufacturer’s warranty, as do the majority of PS5 accessories that are needed to use the product to its full potential. Basically, each type of hardware sold alongside a new Playstation 5 is covered under the same warranty.

The Playstation 5 warranty and many warranties for similar electronic products do not protect against damage caused by the original purchaser of the device. This can include damage caused by trying to use an accessory or game that is not compatible with the PS5, damage caused by game enhancement products that are not licensed by Sony, or damage caused by owner misuse or neglect.

Additionally, a PS5 that has had its serial number removed, defaced, or altered will likely not be eligible for warranty coverage, even if the warranty period is still in effect.

Warranties do not cover used PS5 items, products marked for sale “as is,” or products that have been serviced or tampered with by a non-authorized technician.

Sony provides their written warranty in place of an implied warranty. An implied warranty is the unwritten implication that a product sold will work as it’s meant to. Legal rights included within the Playstation 5 warranty may vary depending on which state or province you live in.

How Long is the Warranty on a PS5?

Sony provides a Playstation 5 warranty period of one year on all of its hardware products. This specifically covers mistakes on the part of the manufacturer and won’t provide repair or replacement if the issue is found to be the owner’s responsibility.

If you do end up sending in your PS5 for warranty-covered service or part replacement, Sony will use its discretion to determine whether a new or refurbished part is used for your repair.

Generally, any new parts will come with their own warranty of around three months to protect against any new issues that could stem from the Sony-authorized repair specifically.

How Do I Claim the Warranty on a PS5?

Are you experiencing an internal hardware issue with your brand-new PS5 console or controller? Before you pay out of pocket for a new accessory or even another new console, contact the Playstation support team local to your area to see if the malfunctions you’re experiencing are covered under your warranty.

Warranty claims can be filed online by visiting the Playstation support website, choosing the appropriate device, and completing the provided troubleshooting guide.

In some cases, you may be able to fix the issue yourself without having to make a warranty claim or wait multiple weeks for repairs to take place.

If you’ve completed the troubleshooting guide but the issue persists, you can call Playstation support to speak to a representative directly. This representative will walk you through the warranty claim fulfillment process step by step and let you know what you need to do in order to receive the repair or replacement you’re entitled to.

Generally, in order to receive service from a Sony-licensed service provider, you’ll have to mail your malfunctioning device and/or accessories into a central location where repairs can take place.

Depending on the current demand for services, Sony should get your repaired device back to you within a matter of weeks. Sony covers any return mailing fees for eligible repairs.

Can I Buy a PS5 Warranty After Purchase?

The Playstation 5 warranty provided by Sony is only available alongside the purchase of these products, and therefore can’t be acquired on its own to apply to a PS5 item that was previously bought.

However, if your warranty coverage period has already elapsed or you’ve purchased a used product that doesn’t come with a manufacturer’s warranty, it doesn’t mean your products will have to go unprotected against damage or malfunction.

The best way to keep your PS5 (and all of your valuable electronic items) protected post-warranty is with device insurance

Similar to insurance for a vehicle or home, device insurance can provide you with assistance in repairing or replacing your product in the event of theft, loss, defacement, or accidental damage.

How Do I Insure My PS5 Once the Warranty Expires?

Many owners of Playstation products and other electronics use device insurance concurrently with their warranty coverage. Most manufacturers’ warranties don’t cover as many issues as device insurance. Being caught without protection in the event of an accident or emergency could result in some expensive repairs or replacements.

However, if you’re satisfied with the level of coverage that your PS5 warranty provides, you can wait until that coverage period elapses to seek out device insurance to take its place.

Keep Your Playstation 5 Protected Post-Warranty with Device Insurance

The Playstation 5 warranty that’s included with the purchase of your console can be extremely helpful in the event of a manufacturer error or internal malfunction within the first year of ownership.

However, warranty coverage only goes so far, even during the coverage period. Accidents happen, which is why you should make sure you’re never caught without device insurance.

The Playstation 5 is a significant investment. If it’s properly taken care of, it can provide years of enjoyment for the whole family. Make sure your PS5 is protected from anything life could throw at you with AKKO gadget insurance.
